At Oak and Fig Homestead, our mission is to support families through a variety of programs and activities designed to nurture growth, connection, and purpose. We serve children from early childhood through the teen years, offering classes and life skills seminars that support traditional family systems and curriculum-based learning. Through hands-on experiences, structured instruction, and practical education, we aim to equip young people with the skills, values, and confidence they need to be well prepared for life, while strengthening family bonds in a supportive, nurturing environment.

Classroom learning focuses on a clear curriculum while intentionally building essential life skills. Through structured lessons aligned with the curriculum, students develop knowledge in core subjects while also learning responsibility, communication, problem-solving, and cooperation. The classroom environment supports focus, confidence, and independence, helping learners understand expectations, follow routines, and apply what they learn in practical ways that support long-term growth and success.

Outdoor play on a homestead is more than recreation—it’s hands-on learning that builds real-life skills for everyday living. Through activities like gardening, caring for animals, building simple structures, exploring nature, and helping with daily chores, kids learn responsibility, problem-solving, teamwork, and independence. Playing outside in a homestead setting encourages curiosity, physical strength, and confidence while teaching practical skills such as food growing, tool safety, observation of nature, and perseverance. These experiences turn play into meaningful learning that prepares children for a capable, self-reliant life.
Older children take on active responsibility by helping with daily animal care, including feeding, watering, cleaning, and observing animal needs. These chores teach consistency, accountability, and respect for living creatures while helping older kids understand the importance of routine and contribution within a family and community. Younger children are introduced to the animals through gentle interaction, observation, and guided experiences that build familiarity and comfort. By seeing, meeting, and learning about the animals in age-appropriate ways, younger kids develop curiosity, empathy, and an early understanding of care and stewardship, laying the foundation for deeper responsibility as they grow.
